Atlantis Cruise – a gay cruise

Embracing the Unexpected: My Eye-Opening Experience on an Atlantis Cruise (a gay cruise)

The thought of embarking on an Atlantis cruise, I will whole heartedly admit that I was apprehensive about what to expect. This was something I honestly had never wanted to do, based on what I perceived the cruise would be like. Mid Summer 2022, Kyle and I were at the New York Fire Island Pines Party, as it was a dream for Kyle to attend at least one year. This party benefits the New York AIDS foundation, and as such there were many auction items to bid on. The All Gay Atlantis Cruise was one of the items.

As someone who no longer fits the mold of a young, skinny guy fully immersed in the rave/dance scene, I worried about feeling out of place. Especially, because all you really see advertised for these cruises are the young muscled out guys who appear to be living their best lives. I never saw advertisements for guys like me, who are average, and are just looking to travel, meet some new people, and experience new things and places. However, what I discovered on this incredible journey shattered my preconceived notions and left me with a newfound sense of community, acceptance, and joy.

The first thing that struck me was the diverse range of individuals on the cruise. While, as mentioned above, the promotional materials may showcase muscular, model-like men, but the reality was far more inclusive. Not saying there wer not more than a gay mans fill of these type of guys, but more importantly, I found people of all body types and ages. The interesting fact is, all were welcomed with open arms. It was not like so many pride events, or gay bar/club events I had been to in the past. This Atlantis Cruise gave a refreshing reminder of what I think the LGBTQ+ community really strives to be about. We are a diverse, beautiful, caring, thoughtful, ageless and come in all different shapes and sizes.

The next thing that caught me off guard was the entertainment on board. The Atlantis Cruise was nothing short of extraordinary. From hilarious comedians like Brad Loekle to the talented singer/actor Nick Adams, the lineup was diverse and captivating. The drag superstars Cacophony Daniels, Sutton Lee Seymour, Lagoona Bloo (and her amazing friend Castrata), and Bob the Drag Queen brought their unparalleled performances to the stage. And who could forget the iconic Todrick Hall? Each show was a testament to the incredible talent within our community. Beyond just being incredible entertainers, we had the opportunity to run into each one of them on the ship. I can not say enough great things about each. Most we hung out with, or at least became acquaintances, where each time we passed one another, we would exchange a smile, laugh and a good morning/afternoon, and discuss what one another’s plans for the day/night.
After the earlier entertainment, the Atlantis Cruise was a non-stop party, with dance events and themed parties happening every afternoon and night. Whether it was a high-energy dance floor or a themed extravaganza, there was never a dull moment. The atmosphere was electric, and I felt everyone was there to let loose, have fun, and create unforgettable memories with new friends, or for some, the friends they will not remember they even met when the morning light came through their window to wake them up. The freedom to express oneself without fear of judgment was truly liberating.

One of the most remarkable aspects of the cruise was the overwhelming sense of community and acceptance. The internal battles faced by LGBTQ+ individuals were acknowledged, and attendees came together to support and uplift one another. Friendships were formed, and bonds were strengthened as we explored excursions together and shared laughter over meals and drinks. The absence of judgment created a safe space where we could truly just be ourselves.

Leaving the Atlantis cruise, I was deeply moved by the experience. It sparked a realization that the love and acceptance we found on the cruise should be extended beyond its confines. It is incumbent upon each of us to carry that kindness and acceptance back into our daily lives, spreading it within the LGBTQ+ community and beyond. By doing so, we can counteract the judgment and insecurities that plague us and create a more compassionate world. I have now seen firsthand how great of a community we do have. We are compassionate, we love, we respect, and we are truly unique and one of a kind!

I think it is in our best interest to bring these things that we all have in common and share them with others in our community. Let’s make it a goal to compliment someone, meet a stranger, find the person at the bar or event standing alone at an event, and learn about them.

My journey on the Atlantis cruise shattered my fears and left me with an overwhelming sense of gratitude. It reminded me of the beauty and diversity within the LGBTQ+ community and the importance of fostering acceptance. The incredible entertainment, vibrant dance parties, and profound sense of community created an experience that exceeded my expectations. I am now eager to embark on future trips with Atlantis and explore other gay group-style traveling experiences, cherishing the opportunity to connect, celebrate, and uplift one another in a world that desperately needs love and understanding. It is truly my recommendation to experience an Atlantis Cruise and see what our community is about.

Sonoma County Pride

Even though we live in Sonoma County we have never attended our local pride until this year and we had a blast. We were involved in putting on the pride drag brunch, which took place at the local casino (Graton Casino). In addition to that we enjoyed helping out in other ways throughout the weekend. Of course we had some good times and enjoyed celebrating our own gay pride! 🙂

Sonoma County Pride takes place the first weekend of June each year. This event has been going for years throughout Sonoma County, but currently takes place in downtown Santa Rosa in the old courthouse square. There are events starting Friday with an opening party all the way to the pool party on Sunday afternoon.

The parade was on the Saturday morning and is full of local businesses just having fun. The main stage at the festival this year was hosted by Jax from Rupaul’s Drag Race season 15. She showed off her tricks and seriously ate! The headlining performers were Grant Knoche, Reve, and Kiesza. Kiesza had The Twampsons (two drag queens from Reno, NV) join her on stage, which was a really fun way to support other LGBTQ artists. Maria and Shania Twampson slayed and we love them! As the Travel Daddyz we were there hosting the VIP lounge and mingled with all kinds of fun people.

We will see you next year Sonoma County Pride!!

Kona, HI

We had a long weekend on the big island of Hawaii at an Airbnb that had beautiful views. In the short time we were there, we were able to go on a hike, check out the Hilton Waikoloa Village resort, and go skydiving. It was so much fun. We also found the local gay scene. The gay bar is called My Bar and it is a very open and welcoming bar for everyone and anyone. They host different events throughout the month including a drag brunch that happened to be the Sunday we were in town. It was country themed and a lot of fun. The big island is not very populated, but it is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the outdoors.
